Flagellate dermatitis after consumption of Shiitake mushrooms
Flagellate dermatitis occurs in patients who have eaten Shiitake mushrooms. We are reporting on a 55-year-old man, who developed whiplash-striped, severely itching efflorescences on the trunk 3 days after eating Lentinula edodes. Flagellate dermatitis is also known as a cutaneous side effect of bleomycin therapy.

test and the episode, the explanation for this phenomenon continues to be a subject of speculation. The tuberculin test may have acted as a traumatic or infectious trigger that activated the patient’s innate immunity, thus increasing TNFproduction by the plasmacytoid dendritic cells and stimulating local activation and proliferation of pathogenic T cells, thereby leading to the episode. Because...
متن کاملFlagellate dermatitis caused by shiitake mushrooms.
Shiitake (Lentinus edodes) is the second most consumed mushroom in the world. It has long been known in Asian medicine for its anticarcinogenic, antihypertensive and serum cholesterol level reduction properties. Nevertheless, the consumption of raw or not well-cooked mushrooms may cause skin eruptions which usually occur 24 to 48 hours after ingestion and are characterized by linearly arranged ...
متن کاملShiitake mushrooms and molecular clocks: historical biogeography of Lentinula
Aim Fungi make up a large, ecologically important group of eukaryotes that has been neglected in historical biogeography. In this study, molecular phylogenies and molecular clock dating were used to infer historical biogeography of the shiitake genus, Lentinula Earle, which occurs in both the Old World and New World. The major goals of this study were to determine if the Old World and New World...
متن کاملProduction of Shiitake ( Lentinula edodes ) Mushrooms in Lignocellulosic Residues
Lignocellulosic residues were tested as artificial log to mushroom production of Lentinula edodes. Three isolates of L. edodes were grown in substrates based on corn bog, and sawdust or bark of eucalypt, enriched with rice bran 20%. The biological efficiency (BE) were higher when corn borg and sawdust was used and the isolate UFV 73 was that presented well shaped mushrooms and higher productivi...
